Community Activities

International Credit Union Day/CMN Bakesale
On October 16th Neighbors joined with credit unions around the world to celebrate International Credit Union Day. We will also celebrated with our annual CMN Bake Sale, benefitting Children's Miracle Network. Each branch sold baked or purchased cookies, brownies, candy, breads and other tasty treats in their lobbies. Over $800 was rasied for CMN!

Home Buying Seminar
Neighbors held its second Home Buying Seminar this year on October 9, 2008 at the Green Park City Hall. Over 10 members and guests learnt about first time homebuyers programs, the different mortgage options, how to get the best deal, and why your credit score is important. Representatives from a Title Company, an Appraiser, and a Real Estate Agent were also on hand to answer questions.

Investment Fundamentals Seminar
Beth Hurst, the Investment Representative serving the members of Neighbors Credit Union, conducted an Investment Fundamentals Seminar on September 25, 2008 at the Maryland Heights Community Center.  This seminar focused on strategies to help your money work harder and smarter, how to select investments that match your objectives, and how to help your money accumulate with tax-advantaged accounts.

Credit Report Seminar
Over 100 members and guests attended our annual Solving the Mystery of Credit Reports seminar on August 7 and 14, 2008. Conducted by Eric Clark, Vice President of Lending, this free seminar covered topics such as: what a credit report is and the information it includes, how credit reports are used, where consumer reporting agencies get their information, factors used to calculate your score, how to improve your score, and much more. Each attending guest received a free copy of their credit report and credit score and were given the opportunity to discuss their questions one-on-one with additional Neighbors credit report experts in attendance.

Shred Pro Day
To help prevent identity theft, Neighbors Credit Union offered to professionally shred paper for members and the community on May 31, 2008. Approximately 130 individuals gathered at our South County branch to take advantage of this free offer. Anyone could bring up to 2 boxes of paper to be destroyed by Shred Pro, the company who professionally destroys Neighbors Credit Union's data.

Consumer Protection Seminar
On May 29, 2008 over two dozen Neighbors members and guests learnt how to protect themselves from one of the fastest growing crimes in America. John Wilsman and Molly Emerich from the US Postal Inspection's Identity Theft Taskforce explained the types of identity theft, how to avoid being a victim, and how to survive consumer fraud.

Teens - How To Manager Your Checking Account Seminar
Neighbors Credit Union is helping teens understand checking accounts. Twenty-eight members and guests gathered on Thursday, April 24, at the John F. Kennedy Community Center in Florissant, Missouri to learn how to manage a checking account and the importance of saving.

Presenter Bridgett Elliott, Neighbors Credit Union Branch Manager, discussed how to write a check and fill out a checkbook register. Presenter Kathleen Krauss, Neighbors Credit Union VISA Manager, discussed how to use a debit card and the importance of tracking your spending. Beth Hurst, the Investment Representative serving the members of Neighbors Credit Union, explained the importance of saving to avoid cash crunches and how saving earlier in life creates a better tomorrow.

Over 20 members and guests learnt about the mortgage lending process, first time homebuyers programs, the different mortgage options, how to get the best deal, and why your credit score is important. Representatives from a Title Company, an Appraiser, and a Real Estate Agent were also on hand to answer questions.

Investing with IRAs Seminar
Approximately one dozen Neighbors Credit Union members and guests gathered at Green Park City Hall on Thursday, February 28, 2008 for an IRA seminar. Beth Hurst, the Investment Representative serving the members of Neighbors Credit Union, covered the types of IRAs, who can buy IRAs and how much they can invest, the difference between Traditional and Roth IRAs, rollovers, conversions, and much more.

Smart Living Expo
On January 5 and 6, 2008, Neighbors Credit Union participated in Charter's Smart Living Expo at the America's Center.  Those who visited our booth had the opportunity to learn about our clubs, identity theft, understanding credit reports, using credit wisely, enter into drawings, and have their pictures taken with Camp Cash mascot Zach. Click here for more photos...

Children's Miracle Network
Every year we participate in Credit Unions For Kids by raising money for Children's Miracle Network. We ended 2007 with a total of $12,034 to donate to Children's Miracle Network. We are looking forward to beating 2007's total! To raise this amount, we will engage in various fundraising activities, such as:
